ISF Member for France, UNSS Appoint New National Director
Longtime ISF Member for France the Union Nationale du Sport Scolaire (UNSS) recently announced the appointment of its new National National Director, in Olympic, World, and European Champion for Handball, Olivier Girault.
The appointment, made by Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer comes two year before Paris will host the Summer Olympics in 2024. As a former member and champion for the French national handball team, Mr Girault was recently in the position of President of the National Handball League, which he led from 2018 to 2020. Now in his position as National Director of the UNSS, he now leads the national federation of school sport five months prior to the next edition of the ISF Gymnasiade, which will take place from 14-22 May this year in the region of Normandy, France.
This next edition of the ISF Gymnasiade – School Summer Games will see over 3500 school student athletes aged between 16 and 18 years old arrive in Normandy from over 70 countries to compete in 17 sports and 3 para sports. (Archery, Athletics, Artistic Gymnastics, Badminton, Basketball 3x3, Boxing, Beach Volleyball, Breakdance, Fencing, Judo, Orienteering, Rugby Sevens, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Wrestling and Para Athletics, Para Judo and Para Swimming). All sport, educational and cultural activities of the event will take place in the departments of Calvados, Eure, Manche, Orne, and Seine-Maritime, involving the nine key cities of Caen, Deauville, Ecouves, Granville, le Havre, Montivilliers, Pont-Audemer, Rouen, and Val de Reuil.
