Sport Meets Education to Inspire Young Minds in Bahrain
Oct 25, Manama, Bahrain – The ISF Academy was honoured to work in collaboration with the Ministry of Education in Bahrain to deliver an informative educational forum at the impressive Bahrain International Exhibition Centre.
The forum was hosted in the presence of his excellency Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma and acting ISF President Mr Belqasmi. Local experts from health, medical and sport backgrounds integrated with International Federation representatives to share their passion and expertise on a range topics and issues linked to the sustained health of young people.
The ISF Academy has a profound belief that education and sport work together, hand-in-hand. Within the framework of the Bahrain Gymnasiade 2024, the ISF Academy will deliver a range of educational programmes to competing athletes, local children and practicing Bahraini PE Teachers.
The ISF academy is proud to work in partnership with a number of International Federations. The visions of IFs and the ISF Academy align in developing opportunities for all young people to move and learn with confidence.
Cat O’Sullivan from World Athletics and Nico Widmer from FIBA discussed how sports programmes can upskill young people within specific activities and through broader aspects of their lives.
Cat & Nico spoke passionately about the programmes promoted by World Athletics and FIBA that aim to engage young people and help them develop into confident young movers first before moving into a specific sports pathway.
Rafael Abraham Galva represented United World Wrestling and spoke with clarity about the importance of positive role modelling from parents and coaches for young people. Galva progressed on to discuss that the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle should be frequently reiterated to young people in way that can impact decisions made towards lifestyle choices.
Amir Borghei from the International Tennis Federation and Ian Wright from the Badminton World Federation participated in the final panel discussion. Both Amir and Ian shared the importance of strategic planning and consideration linked to the sustainability of sports programmes.
Coach development, equality and modified games programmes delivered by each federation such as Shuttle-Time from the BWF were detailed in terms of content and impact measures.
The interaction and exchange of knowledge between all of the panel members and audience participants was rich and crucial to the ongoing commitment of the ISF to support the holistic development of young people.
