ISF Congratulates Kirsty Coventry on Her Election as IOC President

Mar. 24, Lausanne, Switzerland – The International School Sport Federation (ISF) extends its warmest congratulations to the Honourable Mrs. Kirsty Coventry on her historic election as the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), following the 144th IOC Session.

In an official letter of congratulations, ISF Acting President Mr. Youssef Belqasmi praised Mrs. Coventry’s “dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the values of sport and the Olympic movement.” Her appointment marks a new chapter in the global sport community, and ISF expresses full confidence in her vision and leadership.

School sport plays a foundational role in shaping the next generation of athletes and global citizens. As emphasised in the letter, “School sport is not only the first introduction to physical activity and competition for millions of young people worldwide, but it also instils the core values of respect, excellence, and friendship — values that are at the heart of the Olympic spirit.”

Under Mrs. Coventry’s leadership, ISF looks forward to reinforcing its collaboration with the IOC in promoting youth development through sport. Together, both organisations remain committed to upholding values such as fair play, gender equality, cultural exchange, and education through sport, ensuring that sport continues to inspire and empower young people across all backgrounds and abilities.

The ISF remains a steadfast partner to the Olympic Movement and is eager to support President Coventry in shaping a more inclusive and inspiring sporting future for the world’s youth.
