ISF Gymnasiade Bahrain 2024: Plans Unveiled
The Organising Committee of the ISF Gymnasiade 2024 held a press conference on Wednesday 5th October, to announce further details of the event, which will take place in Bahrain in October of 2024 under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Speaking during the conference, the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport, General Sports Authority Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, stressed the Kingdom’s commitment towards making this global event a success. He highlighted the concerted efforts exerted by all entities and stakeholders concerned, that reflect the unity of the Team Bahrain spirit, and adds to the Kingdom’s successful record in hosting various international sporting events.
His Highness affirmed the importance of sports in forming societies, especially school sports which are held at an age where athletic skills can be discovered and refined, stating that the leadership will continue supporting the sports movement through its different sectors.
For his part, the Chairman of the Executive Organising Committee for the ISF Gymnasiade 2024, Ishaq Abdulla Ishaq, presented a brief, detailing the events that will take place during the Gymnasiade 2024. He explained that the games will last for 10 consecutive days, with 5,000 students participating from over 80 different countries. He stated that the Gymnasiade will include 25 different sports, and that 14 sites have been allocated to host these different games.
ISF President Laurent Petrynka, also highlighted the progress that Bahrain has made in the field of sports and sports tourism. He affirmed that the Kingdom is a preferred destination for hosting these games, due the continuous support received by the leadership to the sector, along with the modern infrastructure and distinctive facilities.
President Petrynka further added that the Gymnasiade will include a wide array of sports including, archery, badminton, basketball 3x3, beach volleyball, boxing, fencing, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and wrestling among others.
