14 June, Zadar - The Croatian School Sports Association, in cooperation with the Zadar County School Association presented the news for being the candidate for the organization of the Basketball World Schools Championships.
“We are honoured to be able to present this project in Zadar, the basketball center and the home city of the basketball legend Giuseppe Giergia. I would like to thank everyone, especially the County Association of School Sports, whose President Ms Jadranka Duvancic is also our vice-president, who strongly contributed to our candidacy.” - Mr Nikola Perkovic, president of the Croatian School Sports Association.
Mr Josip Košutić, ISF Sports Director mentioned that the International School Sport Federation brings together 118 members from five continents, representing approximately 100 million young people. ISF organizes World Schools Championships in 21 sports. The upcoming Basketball World Schools Championship in Zadar will include U15 category which is being introduced for the first time.
“Croatia is recognized by the ISF as a country with great experience in organizing large school competitions as well as hosting the events for the U15 youth. This year Croatia has already organized a Volleyball World Schools Championship. These events surpass the sport dimension because they are an excellent opportunity to build friendship and cooperation among young people in the world.” - Mr Josip Košutić, ISF Sports Director
Ivan Šimunić, head of the UO for Education, Culture and Sports, spoke on behalf of the Zadar County. He said, among other things, that the County of Zadar had gladly opened the door for this competition to welcome youth from all over the World.

Participants from 25 countries from several continents are expected to participate in girls and boys category. The championship will be held from 15-22 March 2020.
