PRESS RELEASE: Road to ISF Gymnasiade 2022. Normandy is ready
25 November 2021 – Deauville, Normandy, France
In the framework of the 19th edition of the ISF Gymnasiade – School Summer Games taking place from 14th to 22nd May 2022, in Normandy – France, the International School Sport Federation (ISF), the School Sport Federation of France (UNSS), the DIGES (Delegate Interministerial Delegate of Major Sports Events), the Normandy region and city decision makers met in Deauville from 21st to 24th November 2021 to further develop the operational steps of the event which will gather 3500 school students athletes from 16 to 18 years old from over 70 countries who will compete in 17 sports and 3 para sports in May 2022. (Archery, Athletics, Artistic Gymnastics, Badminton, Basketball 3x3, Boxing, Beach Volleyball, Breakdance, Fencing, Judo, Orienteering, Rugby Sevens, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Wrestling and Para Athletics, Para Judo and Para Swimming).
With the Normandy Region being the host territory, all of the sports, educational and cultural activities of the event will take place in the departments of Calvados, Eure, Manche, Orne, and Seine-Maritime, involving the nine key cities of Caen, Deauville, Ecouves, Granville, le Havre, Montivilliers, Pont-Audemer, Rouen, and Val de Reuil. At the heart of the event will be the city of Deauville acting as one of the central hubs of the event hosting the main operational activities, ceremonies, the competitions for badminton and beach volleyball, as well as accommodating all the participants.
This operational visit demonstrated the very high level of preparation of the organising committee led by the School Sport Federation of France (UNSS) and strongly supported by the different levels of stakeholders of public and sports institutions from local, regional to national level. With six months to the events, the ISF and the organising committee discussed and further developed the plans of all the functional areas of the event preparation.
The accommodation, logistical and security plans presented by the organising committee are each of very high level and will guarantee the welcoming of delegations in the best and safest conditions. The sports facilities are of an excellent level and the cooperation with the International Federations and local sport movement will enable the delivery of a fantastic sport experience for the youth of the world. The educational programme including seminars on topics such as health, gender equality, safeguarding of children in sport as well as the conference are currently being finalised. The cultural programme will be very unique, contributing to highlighting the various sides of the Normandy territories presenting their history and culture.
Laurent Petrynka – ISF President: This operational meeting has confirmed the plans and promises of the organising committee back in 2019 during the presentation of their bidding dossier. Thanks to the high-level support and cooperation with the State, the Normandy Region, the nine host cities, and the organising committee of UNSS, we are confident that ISF members will enjoy a fantastic sporting, educational and cultural experience in France. With the city of Deauville at the heart of the event, we are confident that the whole event organisation will benefit from its very professional know-how in terms of international event hosting.

This event will contribute to promoting the strategy of France in terms major sports events organisation and education through sport. The state of France is delighted to support the ISF Gymnasiade Normandy 2022, which reflects Olympic values and is in complete coherence with preparations of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The DIGES and the local sport movement is fully mobilised to support the UNSS, the region Normandie and the local territory to welcome the world of school sport in the best sporting and hospitality conditions.

I would like to thank to the ISF for the trust given to UNSS for the organisation of the ISF Gymnasiade Normandy 2022. UNSS is actively preparing the organisation of this very important event to deliver the best experience for all teams. The preparation and future success of the event wouldn’t be possible without the strong support of the Normandy Region, the five departments and nine host cities. We are also extremely proud to be able to give the opportunity to more than 1500 young local French volunteers and a number of physical education teachers to get involved and experience this fantastic sport, educational, cultural, and international school sport event.
