On 24 April 2021, the first Congress of School Sports Leaders of Kazakhstan, organised by the Kazakhstan School Sport Federation, took place online. More than 50 delegates took part in the congress, who are involved in the subject of education, as well as representatives from pedagogical institutions.
During the opening remarks of the Congress, moderators paid particular attention to the unique aspect of the project, which brought together top athletes to a round table discussion for the first time. Within the framework of this round table discussion, was the opportunity to talk about themselves and their sporting achievements as well as their plans, whilst also sharing their views on the development of sports within the school environment.
International School Sport Federation (ISF) President and member of the Education Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Laurent Petrynka was in full support of the project with a welcoming video message where he underlined the importance of the Congress of School Sports Leaders event for sports promotion and public recognition for sports merit and recognition of young athletes. As ISF President Laurent Petrynka noted, the International School Sport Federation plays a huge role at the core of school sports leaders, used as a tool for promotion of sports values, increasing the potential and recognition of sports mentors.
Young delegates from various different schools around Kazakhstan, including international and national sport champions, made detailed and interesting presentations. Further discussions took place on the challenges surrounding school sport between congress participants with recommendations being proposed in the subject area of education. The concluding stages of the congress saw moderators award young delegates with personalised diplomas.
Following this successful first congress, many other topics and significant projects await school sports leaders ahead.
