The President of the International Olympic Committee Mr Thomas Bach has reappointed ISF President Mr Laurent Petrynka as a member of the IOC Olympic Education Commission.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the composition of its commissions for 2020. The newest composition includes 30 commissions, of which 11 are chaired by women.
The aim behind the composition is to follow the Olympic Agenda 2020 and to encourage the whole Olympic Movement to advance gender equality both on and off the field. 47.7 per cent of positions across the 30 commissions are now held by women.
The appointment of the ISF President is a great honour for the International School Sport Federation and a great development in liaise with the ISF Vision 2030 of strengthening the recognition of the School Sport on the international stage and uniting the Olympic Movement with education, Ministries, schools and youth.
The members of the IOC Olympic Education Commission, chaired by Mikaela Cojuangco Jaworski, advise the IOC Session, the IOC Executive Board and the IOC President on the promotion of Olympic values-based education and provide strategic direction on IOC programmes related to the education of youth through sport.
The responsibilities of the Olympic Education Commission:
- The development and implementation of an Olympic values education strategy. Advocacy for quality physical education and the integration of values in school curricula, and for suitable and age appropriate sports in and out of school settings;
- Dissemination of the Olympic values in various communication channels, and the promotion of the importance of sport and physical activity for youth development and education; Delivery of the Olympic Values Education Programme, and development of resources for teachers and educators on Olympic values and life skills;
- Integration of values education into IOC properties and partner programmes such as the Athlete Career Development Programme, Massive Online Open Courses, YOG, OCOGs and WADA;
- Optimisation of strategic partnerships with IOC-recognised organisations working in the field of education, and support Sport for Development programmes which focus on the development of life skills and values education.
