Doha, Qatar, 11-13 December 2018 – Asian School Sport Federation (ASSF) organised its 14th General Assembly and Executive Committee meeting jointly with the 7th edition of the ASSF Forum. Before the members gathered for the General Assembly and the forum, the Technical Commission had a meeting to discuss the events and championships scheduled for 2019.
The participants were welcomed by hosts, the Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA), its Executive Director and ISF Executive Committee Member Mr Abdulrahman Hasan Al-Muftah and QSSA's Secretary General Mr Ali Ahmad Al Hitmi.
The representatives from 17 countries who joined the three-day event were also welcomed by the president of the ASSF Mr Ailong Zhang and ASSF’s Secretary General Mr Jason Dong Xiaohua (both members from China).


Mr Nicolaos Melagemos (Cyrpus), the ISF continental president of Europe was the special guest for the assembly, in addition to the ISF continental president of Asia, Mr Panya Hanlumyuang (Thailand) also being present.
At the General Assembly three new countries (Lebanon, Bangladesh and Nepal) submitted their membership affiliation; ASSF now has 21 members from all over Asia.
The gathering was a great opportunity for the members to review and discuss the upcoming championships and the development of school sport in Asia. One of the main topics addressed was the participation of Asian countries at the ISF events.


The key message all delegates agreed on was that school sport is not only about a competition but also about friendship, health and international cooperation.
At the beginning of the 2019, ASSF is planning to release a new website which will support the federation and its members in terms of communication.

Since 1992, ASSF has organised 88 events; from sport competitions to official meetings and forums. In 2018, the federation held two Asian championships; in badminton hosted by Nagpur, India, and in basketball, held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
The ASSF Forum, held on December 13 2018, addressed three important topics; ISF strategic cooperation with ASSF, school sports and the medical follow up and the doping control and smilar issues related to youth sport.
To conclude the 2018 Assembly, Mr Panya Hanlumyuang, the ISF continental president of Asia, confirmed that Thailand will be the next host country of the ASSF General Assembly, Executive Committee meeting and the Forum.
