Marrakesh, Morocco - It’s time to celebrate youth from all over the World coming together in Morocco for a week-long event uniting sport with education.
Gymnasiade 2018 - ISF School Summer Games will be the first ever International, Multisport Event for young athletes held on African soil. In terms of athletes, countries participating and the scale of the event and organisation, it will also be the biggest Gymnasiade so far.
The 17th edition of Gymnasiade, also known as the ISF School Summer Games 2018, will gather school youth from 50 different countries, all coming to Morocco from May 2-9, to take part in sport event which combines traditional sport competition with educational system and Olympic values.
Gymnasiade will be held under the High Patronage of his Majesty of King Mohammed VI and is part of the broader sport vision Morocco has for its future.
The event is organised by the International School Sport Federation, Moroccan School Sport Federation (FRMSS), Moroccan Ministry of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research and Ministry of Youth and Sport.
This week-long sport event is an important milestone for Africa, proving the next generation is ready to make a difference and take the development of education and sport to the next level. More than 15 African countries will send their school youth to compete alongside their counterparts from all over the World (3000 pupils from 50 countries are participating).

18 sports disciplines will be held in venues across Marrakesh and Casablanca. Marrakech will host the majority of the events, while Casablanca will step in as the host of swimming and surfing competition.

Competitions will be run in cooperation with International Sport Federations: IAAF, World Taekwondo Federation, International Judo Federation, World Archery, International Boxing Association (AIBA), Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and World Wrestling Union.
Events serving as Youth Olympic Games qualification
For some of the young athletes, Gymnasiade 2018 could be a stepping stone for a further, even professional, career in sport. Youth athletes will have a chance to earn a spot for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games. The results obtained in the archery and swimming competitions of the Schools Summer Games | Gymnasiade 2018 will be eligible as MQS (Minimum Qualification Score) for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games.
Uniting Sport with Education
Through sport, Gymnasiade calls for quality education, cultural exchange, wellbeing, peace, fair play and gender equality among youth, also by offering additional educational activities and workshops, in accordance with UN Global Goals, held alongside the competition.
The power of Young volunteers from morocco
Young volunteers from Morocco will make sure the youth participating at Gymnasiade get an experience of a lifetime; they will take up on the roles of young reporters, translators or guides, help on the field at the sport competitions or play a vital role at the Opening, Closing and medal ceremonies.
Sport village with educational activities and workshops lead by young volunteers from the world of School Sport.
Pilot project ran by ISF Youth Council (17 young volunteers from 15 countries) with educational workshops on healthy lifestyle, gender equality, peace and sport, anti-doping and topics in accordance with UN Global Goals.
Cultural Day and Intercultural Festival
A festival celebrating diversity and cultural exchange; countries get an opportunity to present their culture and customs (usually through performance arts), and meet and exchange knowledge with other participants of Gymnasiade.
The event is connecting grassroot with professional sport
Youth will be led, and inspired, by Olympic and World Champions, such as Hicham El Guerrouj, who will take up on a role as Gymnasiade ambassadors.
