Starting from today, Tallinn hosts the ISF World Schools Championship Basketball 3×3 2016.
From June 17th to 21th, 500 young basketball lovers coming from 23 countries will shoot hoops like Stephen Curry, Nando De Colo or Celine Dumerc in the Medieval Old Town of Estonia.
All the talented basketball players representing their schools are ready to create beautiful memories with people coming from different regions of the world, bringing with them their smiles, cultures and their passion for the basketball.
To give participants the opportunity to explore some of all the many treasures of Tallinn, the organisers, from the Estonian School Sport Union and the International School Sport Federation have put together a cultural programme giving the chance to do so both inside and outside the basketball courts. The ISF and it’s Estonian member will underlined during the event that Education, Sport and Culture the keys element for the development and the well being of young people.
This World School Championship particularly highlights the Memorandum of Understanding between FIBA and ISF. On the top of the opportunity for the young players to play with the official FIBA 3*3 balls, Mr Robert Rieblinger, FIBA 3*3 development manager, contributed to support the ISF BasketBall Technical Commission while he will coordinate the individual competition, like the Dunk contest planned in between the matches.
During the draw, Mr Rieblinger underlined that: “BasketBall 3*3 is a really interesting sport that’s fits perfectly for Physical Education program at school”. We can indeed say that this discipline is totally alined with the ISF spirit: good for the health of the young people, fun and accessible to all while it can strongly contribute to equality gender by mixing boys and girls within a team.
All participants are accommodated close by the beautiful seaside at the mouth of Pirita River and not too far from the heart of the city where the championship takes place. Originally, the accommodation was built for the yachting regattas for the Moscow Olympic Games in 1980. However, since then it has accommodated thousands of visitors, and next week it hosts basketball players from all over the world.
