Trabzon – The ISF Gymnasiade 2016 has successfully come to an end. However, regarding it only as a sports event would be a great injustice – it reached far beyond it. Besides the competition, the young athletes were meeting new people, making new friendships and getting to know different cultures. The important part also belonged to the volunteers – young and ambitious people, ready to develop new skills.
“I am very proud of your attitude, fair-play and all the friendships you bounded, and which will hopefully be everlasting. Never forget that together, we are stronger, we are all winners,” declared Laurent Petrynka, the ISF president during his speech at the Closing Ceremony: “I hope that you will come back at home with sparkles in your eyes and unforgettable memories you can hold on to for the future. May the peace be always in your home and your heart. May sport continue to part of your incredible journey.”
Some delegations consisted of only four athletes while some were able to fill the whole bus. Country who collected the biggest amount of medals was Brazil with 128 medals, followed by Turkey with 119 medals and France who leaved with 56 medals. Puerto Rico got a medal for the first time in history of their participation and the Joy of Moving trophy for fair play assigned to Chinese Taipei.
The participants of the Gymnasiade showed a great example of the values that can make the world a better place – the whole competition and sports rivalry was accompanied by brotherhood, fair play, peace and unity. The ISF Gymnasiade 2016 chapter had ended and the athletes came to their homes to start creating new ones. The new Gymnasiade story will be written in Morroco (Rabat) in 2018 and we can’t wait to see the new lines to be created.
