LAUSANNE, Switzerland (November 10, 2017) - ISF President - Mr Laurent Petrynka participated to the 1st meeting of Olympic Education Commission, which gather 24 experts from national and international sport movement and from education systems who have been appointed to support the Olympic education strategy of the IOC led by Mr Barry Maister, Chairman of the Commission. Mr Petrynka has been nominated this year by IOC President - Dr Thomas Bach.
Among the 27 different IOC Commissions, the Olympic Education Commission has the mission ''to advises the IOC Session, the IOC Executive Board and the IOC President on the promotion of Olympic values-based education and provides strategic direction on IOC programmes and activities related to the education of youth through sport''.
Mr Petrynka said today: ''I'm really proud that School Sport movement can now contribute to support the IOC Olympic Education Commission strategy led by Barry Maister. I think that one of the major challenge is to gather sport and education world more closely. Also I believe that sport organisations and specifically sport federations have the responsability to highlight always more their contribution to societal issues in and through sport''
This meeting showcased the severals IOC strong tools such as OVEP, Olympic Channel, Olympic Solidarity which facilitate the development and promotion of sport as a tool for education.
The IOC Olympic Education Commission is currently working on strategic actions organised around the three following topics: Learning through playing sport, Olympic Values and Life skills linked to three categories such as Schools and Active Youth, Champion and Ambassadors, partnerships.
