From July 11th to 18th 2016, after hosting First Edition of the 2007 Black Sea Games and the 2011 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival and – few weeks before Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the International School Sport Federation and the Turkish School Sport Federation will jointly organise in relation with International Olympic Federations: The Gymnasiade. This mega event will encourage and promote “education through sport” for many young people from the school sport network around the world.
Therefore the city of Trabzon (TUR) will be hosting the most talented school sport athletes from 30 countries* with 2500 athletes. Aiming at giving the best out of themselves, they will be competing to promote peace through sport in one of the many sport disciplines:
- Articstic Gymnastics
- Rhythmic Gymnastics
- Aerobic Gymnastics
In core line with the main objective of the International School Sport Federation, “Education through Sport”, 300 young volunteers from Trabzon and Turkey will be responsible for ensuring specific missions in the field of translation, communications, logistics and hosting.
A great opportunity for them to develop professional skills within a sport environment and bring a legacy to the young people coming from the host city. It is an important part of the educational dimension of the event which contributes to empower young people.
Most competitions will be taking place within the Olympic Village and in halls located throughout the city.
Follow our athletes closely on our social networks, they are the seeds of future olympic champions like Keri-Anne Payne (Gymnasiade 2002), Amaury Raymond Leveaux (Gymnasiade 2002), Xing Aowei (Gymnasiade 1998) and Hugues Duboscq (Gymnasiade 1998).
However, it is not only about sports, but tolerance, fair-play and culture. Cultural visits in the wonderful city of Trabzon will be organised to invite the youngsters to discover the historical and artistic heritage of the host city. Besides, the cultural festival is a unique chance to get along and find out more about each other’s country with typical dishes, beverage and dances.
